About the role

Systems Administrator

About This Role

As our Senior Systems Administrator, you will keep BibleProject's core technology and data infrastructure available, reliable, performant, and secure as part of our Information Services team. You will get to manage our server, storage, network, and security systems, help bring new tools into our technology pipeline, and serve as a technical partner to teams across the studio. To be successful, you will need deep hands-on experience administering mixed-OS environments and a service-minded approach to solving problems for the people who rely on these systems every day.

In all your work, you will bring your skills and experience to help further our mission of helping people experience the Bible as a unified story that leads to Jesus.

Core Functions

Leadership

  • Guide the integration of new applications and technologies into our current technology pipeline.
  • Advise other departments on their technical needs and collaborate on solutions.
  • Mentor and train team members on new and existing technologies.
  • Document and define best practices and policies for our systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, install, and configure network devices and infrastructure.
  • Proactively manage and maintain server, storage, and network systems.
  • Oversee the configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of security, identity and access management (IAM), and mobile device management (MDM) systems.
  • Handle intake, triage, troubleshooting, escalation, and resolution for technical issues.

Expertise

  • Apply systems administration best practices across a mixed Windows, macOS, and Linux environment.
  • Draw on knowledge of storage and archival systems to keep the studio's data available and protected.
  • Use scripting and automation to find efficiencies and streamline recurring work.
  • Stay current on infrastructure, security, and cloud platforms, and recommend improvements to our technology stack.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience in a Systems Administrator role.
  • Hands-on experience administering Windows, macOS, and Linux systems in a mixed environment.
  • Hands-on experience configuring network devices such as switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Experience administering identity and access management, such as SSO, directory services, or MFA.
  • A track record of resolving technical issues from intake through resolution in a help desk or support queue.
  • Experience managing a support queue alongside longer-term infrastructure projects.
  • Experience gathering requirements and evaluating tools or vendors for a new system or application rollout.
  • Experience explaining technical issues and solutions to non-technical staff, in person and in writing.
  • Experience writing technical documentation, such as runbooks, policies, or knowledge base articles.
  • Familiarity with BibleProject's videos, podcasts, or other resources.

Experience with any of the following is a plus, not a requirement:

  • IaaS/PaaS platforms (DigitalOcean, AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • UEM/MDM systems (Jamf, MaaS360, Meraki)
  • Enterprise scale-out NAS systems (Qumulo, Isilon, NetApp)
  • Tape or cloud archival systems
  • Scripting and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
  • Help desk systems (Jira Service Management, Zendesk)
  • Scrum or other Agile methodologies
