About the role

Chemtek is looking for an experienced Freight Professional to take responsibility for our shipping and delivery operations. You’ll select carriers, negotiate rates, arrange shipments and handle problems from pickup through delivery.

You’ll work within our Sales Operations and Order Entry Quality team, making the freight decisions that affect our costs and our customers’ deliveries. That means comparing rates and delivery times, knowing which carriers provide reliable service and following through when a shipment is late, damaged or missing.

You’ll personally handle the daily freight work. The pace is fast, and several shipments may need your attention at once. We need someone who can make decisions, keep accurate records and stay on top of problems until they are resolved.

What You’ll Do

  • Arrange and book less-than-truckload (LTL), full truckload and parcel shipments, including FedEx.
  • Coordinate pickups and delivery requirements using FreightPop and Freightview.
  • Track shipments, investigate delays and locate missing freight. Handle delivery problems and follow through on freight claims.
  • Work with our order-processing and plant shipping teams to make sure shipments are ready, instructions are correct and pickups are coordinated.
  • Keep customers and sales representatives informed about delivery status, delays and changes.
  • Review freight bills and resolve incorrect or unexpected charges with carriers.
  • Manage freight processing and records in Acumatica, including shipping details, freight charges and shipment information.
  • Review carrier performance and freight costs to identify better service options and opportunities to reduce costs. Select carriers based on total freight cost, delivery time and service reliability.
  • Negotiate carrier rates, tariffs, fuel surcharges and other shipping charges. Keep rate agreements current.
  • Manage relationships with carriers, freight brokers and other shipping vendors, including addressing service problems.

What We’re Looking For

  • At least three (3) years of experience in freight, transportation, logistics or shipping operations.
  • Experience selecting carriers, comparing freight quotes and negotiating rates.
  • A working knowledge of LTL, truckload and FEDEX or UPS parcel shipping.
  • The ability to resolve shipping problems and communicate directly with carriers, customers and coworkers.
  • Accuracy with rates, shipment details and records.
  • The ability to manage several shipments and changing priorities without losing track of open issues.
  • A degree from a college, community college or business school is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with FreightPOP, Acumatica or other ERP is preferred.

Schedule

  • Full-time position.
  • Hours 7:30 to 4:00 PM

Benefits

  • Competitive salary.
  • $2,000 sign-on bonus for candidates with 2+ years of Acumatica ERP experience.
  • Company-funded QSEHRA health reimbursement benefit for eligible employees and family members.
  • 401(k) with company contribution.
  • Paid holidays, PTO, vacation, and sick leave.
  • Eight additional paid days off during Chemtek’s Christmas holiday period.
  • Based at Chemtek’s downtown Durham office located in the American Tobacco Campus, with free covered parking and walkable restaurants.
