Role Overview
We’re building something new within an established gaming studio: an ambitious venture at the intersection of gaming, rewards and incentives.
We’re looking for an exceptional Senior Backend Engineer - Ruby to lead our technical direction, build the foundations of our platform and help turn ambitious ideas into reality.
This is an opportunity to combine the energy, autonomy and creativity of a startup with the resources, expertise and reach of a larger gaming business.
We need someone who is highly experienced, technically brilliant and genuinely excited by the opportunity to build something from the ground up.
This is more than a backend engineering role. It’s an opportunity to help build something from the ground up, lead its technical evolution and play a pivotal role in what comes next.
What you’ll do
- Own the technical vision: Define the architecture, technology strategy and engineering roadmap as the studio grows.
- Build great technology: Design and develop scalable, secure and reliable backend systems that power gaming experiences, rewards and incentive mechanics.
- Lead by example: Stay hands-on with engineering while setting high standards for code quality, performance and delivery.
- Shape the team: Establish strong engineering practices, mentor others and help build a talented, ambitious team.
- Drive innovation: Work closely with product, game design and studio leadership to turn ideas into compelling products.
- Make the most of our wider business: Balance startup-style autonomy with the ability to leverage the infrastructure, expertise and capabilities of the larger studio.
What we’re looking for
- Extensive backend engineering experience, with strong proficiency in Ruby, and a track record of building and scaling production systems.
- Strong expertise in software architecture, APIs, distributed systems and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience shaping technical strategy and leading engineering initiatives.
- A hands-on, pragmatic approach, with the ability to balance speed, quality and long-term scalability.
- A commercial and product mindset, with a passion for solving problems and creating great experiences.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the confidence to influence across technical and business teams.
- Genuine enthusiasm for gaming, rewards, incentives and building something new.
- Experience in gaming, loyalty, rewards or high-volume consumer platforms would be a bonus.
Above all, we want someone with a builder’s mindset: curious, ambitious, entrepreneurial and energised by the opportunity to make a real impact.
