About the role

Matternet is building the future of delivery with autonomous drone networks that move critical goods faster, cleaner, and at lower cost. We work with partners across healthcare, logistics, food, and retail to deliver everything from medical items to everyday essentials, safely and reliably.

We’re looking for a hands-on Production Control and Inventory Specialist to keep materials, inventory records, and production orders aligned. You’ll make sure the production team has the right parts at the right time, maintain accurate stock and ERP transactions, and help coordinate receiving, kitting, and shipping. You’ll work closely with Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering to resolve shortages and keep builds moving. This is an on-site role based at our Mountain View headquarters, where you’ll be part of a small, agile, highly cross-functional team working alongside hybrid colleagues, so clear communication and reliable documentation are essential.

In this role, you will:

  • Translate production schedules and bills of materials into material requirements, build kits, and clear shortage lists
  • Track production orders, material availability, and work in progress; flag constraints early and follow through with the appropriate owner
  • Maintain accurate inventory and production transactions in SAP Business ByDesign, including receipts, transfers, material issues, returns, and order completion records
  • Receive, label, store, and issue parts and assemblies, maintaining location, lot or serial-number, and shelf-life records where required
  • Prepare and verify kits for production and new product builds; reconcile unused material and keep physical stock aligned with system records
  • Perform cycle counts and support physical inventories, investigate discrepancies, and work with Finance and Quality on corrections through the approved process
  • Partner with Purchasing to track incoming materials, follow up on delivery risks, and communicate shortages or changing build priorities
  • Coordinate shipping and receiving activities, maintain the associated records, and keep stockroom areas organized and safe
  • Work with Engineering and Quality on material changes, revision control, and segregation of nonconforming or obsolete stock
  • Improve material flow, inventory accuracy, and production tracking through clear procedures and practical process improvements

Requirements

  • Experience in production control, material planning, or inventory management in a hardware manufacturing or new product introduction environment
  • Working knowledge of bills of materials, material requirements planning, production orders, kitting, and inventory reconciliation
  • Hands-on experience using an ERP or inventory system to record and reconcile material movements; able to learn and work accurately in SAP Business ByDesign
  • Strong attention to detail, organized follow-through, and the ability to prioritize competing material and production needs
  • Comfortable using Excel or Google Sheets to track shortages, analyze discrepancies, and communicate status
  • Clear communication with production, purchasing, engineering, quality, and finance teams
  • Comfortable with hands-on stockroom work and following documented material handling, safety, and traceability procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with SAP Business ByDesign and PLM systems such as Arena
  • Experience with aerospace, UAVs, medical devices, automotive, or other quality-controlled electromechanical manufacturing
  • Experience supporting new product introduction and a transition from prototype builds to repeatable production
  • Familiarity with ESD-sensitive material handling, shelf-life controls, lean inventory practices, and 5S
  • Experience with shipping documentation, supplier delivery follow-up, and Jira or Confluence

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.

  • Stand, walk, or sit for extended periods while working across the stockroom, production area, and a computer workstation
  • Regularly lift, carry, and move parts, kits, and boxes weighing up to approximately 35 lbs; heavier items with assistance or material handling equipment
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to receive, store, retrieve, and count materials on shelving and in bins, as well as perform repetitive motions
  • Use hand tools, label printers, scanners, and computers for tasks requiring manual dexterity
  • Sufficient near visual acuity to read part labels, lot and serial numbers, and inventory records
  • Follow ESD, material handling, and safety procedures when working with sensitive components and lithium-ion batteries

Benefits

At Matternet, we’re advancing a new era of logistics, one where autonomous drones deliver what matters faster, cleaner, and more efficiently. We know our mission is challenging, but it's worth it, and we are committed to taking care of the people who make it possible.
