BI Developer I
- Full Time
About the role
The BI Developer I will be a hands‑on contributor in Oceaneering’s Corporate IT Business Intelligence team, responsible for delivering Power BI solutions from requirements gathering through production support. You will prepare and transform data, build reusable semantic models, author advanced DAX calculations, create interactive reports and dashboards, and manage deployments via Visual Studio Code and GitHub‑based version control. A working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and AI‑assisted analytics is essential to deliver modern, scalable analytics for our global operations.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to capture requirements and translate them into secure, intuitive Power BI solutions.
- Deliver end‑to‑end Power BI projects, including data preparation, semantic modeling, DAX development, report design, testing, deployment and production support.
- Design, maintain, and document reusable Power BI semantic models, dataflows, reports, dashboards and analytics components following development standards.
- Develop Power BI artifacts using Visual Studio Code with PBIP/TMDL files, performing inspection, troubleshooting and version control.
- Manage source code in GitHub: repositories, branches, commits, pull requests, peer reviews and release documentation.
- Create dimensional data models and advanced DAX measures that ensure accuracy, performance and maintainability.
- Use Power Query, SQL and PL/SQL to ingest, clean, transform, reconcile and validate data from enterprise sources.
- Configure and support Power BI workspaces, apps, gateways, refresh schedules, row‑level security, access controls and deployment pipelines.
- Apply Microsoft Fabric capabilities (OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory, Direct Lake) and AI‑assisted features (Copilot, natural‑language analytics) where appropriate.
- Document solution architecture, data lineage, business rules and support procedures; provide guidance to self‑service Power BI users.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- 2–4 years of hands‑on experience delivering end‑to‑end Power BI projects, including requirements gathering, modeling, DAX, reporting and support.
- Proficiency with Visual Studio Code for Power BI Project files (PBIP, TMDL) in a structured development environment.
- Practical experience using Git and GitHub for source control, branching, pull requests, code reviews and release traceability.
- Strong expertise in Power BI Desktop and Service: Power Query, DAX, semantic models, gateways, refreshes, security and performance optimization.
- Advanced SQL (and PL/SQL) skills with solid understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling and ETL/ELT patterns.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric concepts (OneLake, Lakehouse, Warehouse, Data Factory, Direct Lake) and their integration with Power BI.
- Familiarity with AI‑assisted analytics tools such as Power BI Copilot and responsible AI practices.
- Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, documentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data topics to diverse audiences.
