Officer/Sr.Officer - Engineering
About the role
POSITION SUMMARY
Being at the frontline of an engineering department of paint manufacturing plant and dealing with all equipment maintenance requires a responsible and organized approach
As a Instrumentation Engineer to support process automation, instrumentation reliability, and electrical panel troubleshooting in a running industrial paint/coatings manufacturing plant. The role requires strong hands-on capability with Allen‑Bradley PLC systems (preferred), FactoryTalk HMI/SCADA, and field instrumentation, along with practical understanding of PCC, MCC, VFD/Soft-starter panels, and PLC control panels. The position involves breakdown support, preventive maintenance, upgrades, and project execution with strong focus on safety and compliance in a solvent/chemical environment.
Your role is vital to the efficiency, development and progress of manufacturing and processing industries. Working with other professionals, you'll improve production facilities, reduce the incidence of costly breakdowns, and develop strategies to improve overall reliability and safety of plant, personnel and production processes.
Process Automation (Allen‑Bradley PLC / FactoryTalk)
Troubleshoot and support Allen‑Bradley PLC systems (online diagnostics, I/O health checks, logic debugging, minor modifications, backups/restores).
Support FactoryTalk HMI/SCADA operations: tag mapping, alarm configuration/rationalization, trends, and basic screen changes as required.
Diagnose and resolve issues across automation architecture: PLC racks, remote I/O, field panels, drives integration, and basic industrial networking (EtherNet/IP preferred).
Improve sequences, permissives, and interlocks to enhance process stability and reduce nuisance trips in a running plant.
Maintain proper change control: logic versioning, backups, and documentation updates.
Field Instrumentation (Process & Utilities)
Installation, calibration, commissioning and maintenance of instruments: pressure/DP/temperature transmitters, flow meters, level instruments (radar/ultrasonic), load cells/weighing systems.
Maintenance of control valves/actuators/positioners, solenoid valves, limit switches, proximity sensors and related field devices.
Perform loop checking, cold/hot commissioning, I/O validation, and shutdown/start-up support.
Troubleshoot measurement deviations and instrument health issues; perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions.
Maintain calibration records, instrument history, critical spares, and preventive maintenance schedules.
Plant Equipment Coverage (Industrial Coatings – Running Plant)
Mixing / Dispersion / Batch Preparation: high-speed dispersers, agitators, inline mixers, batch mixers; load cell-based batching and dosing/charging skids; temperature control loops and mixing safety interlocks.
Tank Farm & Transfer Systems: storage tanks for resins/solvents/additives, day tanks, blend tanks; pumping and transfer lines; manifolds and filtration skids; tank gauging/level systems; overflow prevention and pump protection interlocks.
Utilities & Plant Services: compressors and compressed air header instrumentation; nitrogen blanketing/inerting systems (where applicable); chillers/cooling water systems; ventilation/dust collection; ETP/effluent instrumentation (if in scope).
Filling / Packing / Material Handling (if applicable): filling lines, weigh fillers, conveyors, bag filters; interlocks and downtime troubleshooting.
Electrical Panels (PCC/MCC/Drives/PLC Panels)
Hands-on troubleshooting and commissioning support for PCC/MCC feeders, motor starters, protections, interlocks, and E-stops.
Support VFD/soft-starter panels: basic parameter checks, fault diagnostics, and integration of run/healthy/trip feedback to PLC.
Support PLC control panels: I/O wiring checks, marshalling, terminal integrity, panel health checks, earthing/grounding verification.
Read and interpret SLD, wiring diagrams, GA drawings, cable schedules, and terminal plans.
Coordinate with Electrical/Mechanical/Production teams during shutdowns, breakdowns, FAT/SAT, and site execution.
Projects / Modifications / Upgrades (Brownfield)
Execute brownfield projects with minimal downtime: new instruments, panel modifications, PLC/HMI changes, drive integration, interlock enhancements.
Participate in FAT/SAT, punch list closure, and handover documentation.
Drive continuous improvement: downtime reduction, alarm reduction, instrumentation reliability improvement, and process stabilization.
Safety, Compliance & Documentation
Ensure adherence to EHS requirements: LOTO, Permit-to-Work, and safe commissioning practices.
Ensure safe installation practices: segregation, earthing, proper glands, labeling, and housekeeping for panels and field instrumentation.
Maintain updated documentation: as-built drawings, I/O lists, loop diagrams, interlock lists, backups, calibration certificates, and change logs.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
4-8 of experience as Instrumentation Engineer in Paint/Chemical Industry.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Diploma / BE / BTech in Instrumentation /Mechanical/ E&I / Electrical / Electronics.
Experience: 5–8 years in Instrumentation + Process Automation within process industries (Paint/Coatings/Chemicals preferred).
Strong exposure to both plant maintenance troubleshooting and project execution/commissioning in a running plant.
Shift: Primarily day shift; occasional support during shutdowns/start-ups as required.
JOB LOCATION:
- Bangalore, Karnataka, India.
