Job Summary

RESPONSIBILITES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
Under the direction of the Executive SELPA Director, the Education Specialist Teacher (EST) provides specialized academic instruction at multiple school sites to students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) through an inclusive, collaborative teaching model. The EST ensures that IEPs are implemented with fidelity, including the provision and documentation of specialized academic instruction (SAI) minutes, accommodations, support services, assessments, and progress toward IEP goals.

The EST manages assigned student cases, including administering and interpreting academic assessments, preparing reports for IEP meetings, monitoring student progress, and reporting progress to families. The EST collaborates with general education teachers and paraeducators in delivering services and provides guidance on data collection and tracking IEP goals and objectives.

The EST provides instruction across educational settings through a flexible learning center model that may include direct instruction, co-teaching, and instruction in the learning center. Responsibilities include developing lesson plans; delivering differentiated instruction aligned with the Common Core State Standards; supporting students’ participation and progress in inclusive learning environments; and promoting a classroom culture grounded in positive relationships.

This position requires travel to school sites throughout Los Angeles County to support IEP development, conduct assessments, and assist with the implementation of SAI services. The EST provides temporary support to school sites experiencing increased caseloads or personnel absences to help maintain continuity of IEP services. Through consistent, caring communication with parents and families, the EST contributes to LACOE’s culture of care and works collaboratively with partner agencies and other stakeholders to support success.
