About the role
About the Role
Join an early-stage insurtech company building AI-powered tools for complex insurance claims operations. As the first product designer, you will shape the user experience for claims professionals and help evolve a functional product into an enterprise-grade platform.
What You'll Do
Own end-to-end UX across claims workspaces and dashboards used by operators, team leads, and executives.
Study product usage through behavioral data, heat maps, analytics, user interviews, and direct observation, then use findings to prioritize improvements.
Partner with product leadership, forward-deployed engineers, and the engineering team to translate customer problems into clear workflows and implementation-ready designs.
Design AI-agent interactions that explain actions and sources, communicate uncertainty, and let users review or intervene.
Lead product discovery and design delivery as the platform develops for larger insurance organizations.
Establish design principles and a design system, and prototype regularly with AI-assisted tools.
Measure whether design changes help users complete work more easily.
What We're Looking For
Five to eight years of product design experience, including early-stage startup experience as a founding designer or first design hire.
A portfolio demonstrating UX ownership of dense, technical software and complex workflows used regularly by operators.
Experience using user research and product analytics to simplify workflows and guide design decisions.
Hands-on prototyping experience with AI coding tools such as Claude or Lovable.
Experience with AI and human-in-the-loop interactions is valued.
Background in insurance, claims, healthcare, or another compliance-heavy operational domain is a plus.
Strong product design experience beyond visual design alone; frontend engineering experience is not required.
Compensation & Benefits
Base salary: $170,000 to $220,000 annually. U.S. work authorization is required. Visa transfers are accepted; new visa sponsorship is not available.
Location
On-site, five days per week in New York, New York.
