Principal DevOps Engineer
About the role
About the Job
As a Principal DevOps Engineer, you work together with stakeholders from architecture, application development teams, testing teams, leadership, and OE representatives to understand challenges, expectations, and customer requirements. You develop a roadmap for infrastructure solutions that allow for high-availability and low latency across the globe and follow-up with your team and stakeholders for timely delivery. You mentor a team of DevOps Engineer, ensure the team is productive, follow-up on blockers and make sure team-internal and team-external exchanges happen frequently.
What you do
- Incident Management and Advanced Troubleshooting:
- Act as escalation point and lead triage for complex, high-severity (P1/P2) incidents reported through ServiceNow, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Perform in-depth bug analysis and root-cause investigation across application, infrastructure, and integration layers, going beyond surface-level workarounds.
- Reproduce reported defects, isolate failure conditions, and work directly with development teams to validate and verify fixes prior to release.
- Own post-incident reviews (RCA), document findings, and drive corrective actions through to closure.
- Deployment Management Across Customer Stages:
- Plan, coordinate, and execute deployments across the full customer environment lifecycle (Pre-Production, Production), ensuring consistency and traceability at every stage.
- Align release and change windows with customer-specific SLAs, calendars, and change management policies.
- Validate deployment readiness at each customer stage, including smoke testing, configuration checks, and rollback planning, before promotion to the next stage.
- Manage environment and configuration parity across customer stages to minimize deployment risk and stage-specific defects.
- Monitoring and Performance:
- Design and maintain advanced Dynatrace dashboards, SLOs, and proactive alerting tuned to each customer and product.
- Perform trend and capacity analysis to anticipate issues before they impact customers, and continuously refine monitoring coverage based on incident learnings.
- Infrastructure Management:
- Manage, troubleshoot, and scale Kubernetes workloads and deployments across customer namespaces/clusters.
- Lead the configuration, deployment, and lifecycle management of containerized applications in customer environments.
- Extended Product Team for the Customer:
- Act as a dedicated technical point of contact for assigned customers, functioning as an embedded extension of their product team rather than a purely reactive support function.
- Participate in customer product and engineering ceremonies (stand-ups, release planning, retrospectives) to represent the operational and reliability perspective.
- Translate customer feedback, recurring incidents, and operational insights into actionable product and engineering improvement requests.
- Build and maintain deep knowledge of the specific configuration, integrations, and business context of each customer to provide informed, consultative support.
- Communicate deployment status, incident updates, and risk directly and proactively to customer stakeholders.
What you bring
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in site reliability engineering, DevOps, or IT operations, including direct experience supporting customer-facing production environments.
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced bug analysis, debugging, and root-cause analysis skills across distributed systems and application code.
- Strong hands-on experience with ServiceNow incident and change management processes.
- Advanced proficiency with Dynatrace (or equivalent APM tooling): dashboards, queries, SLOs, and alerting design.
- Strong Kubernetes and container orchestration skills, including workload debugging and scaling.
- Proven experience managing and promoting deployments across multiple environment stages for external or internal customers.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong stakeholder management and customer-facing communication skills.
- Ability to operate as a trusted, embedded extension of a customer product team.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to lead through ambiguity during incidents.
- Mentoring and knowledge-sharing orientation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Scripting/automation experience (e.g., Python, Groovy, Bash).
- Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
- Experience with Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
- Experience with GitOps/CI-CD pipelines (e.g., ArgoCD) for multi-stage deployments.
- ITIL or SRE-related certification is a plus.
What we offer
- We offer a hybrid work model which recognizes the value of striking a balance between in-person collaboration and remote working.
- We believe in rewarding performance, and our compensation and benefits package includes a company bonus scheme, pension, employee shares program, and multiple employee discounts (details vary by location).
- From career development and digital learning programs to international career mobility, we offer lifelong learning for our employees worldwide and an environment where innovation, delivery, and empowerment are fostered.

- Comprehensive health insurance extends beyond employees to cover their loved ones.
- We offer a premium gym membership to support well-being and a healthy work-life balance.
