Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an Intermediate Structural CAD Designer to join our growing Structural Engineering team in our Toronto West office. The successful candidate will work closely with structural engineers, BIM modellers and multidisciplinary design teams to develop high-quality structural drawings, models and construction documentation.

The Toronto West structural team supports projects ranging from minor renovations to major projects across transportation, data centres, water and wastewater, commercial, industrial, power and institutional buildings and structures.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced structural CAD professional who enjoys turning engineering concepts into accurate, coordinated and constructible drawings while collaborating with teams locally and across Arcadis offices.

Role accountabilities:

  • Prepare detailed structural drawings, plans, sections and construction details using AutoCAD, Revit and other design software.
  • Develop and maintain structural 2D drawings and 3D BIM models throughout different stages of project delivery.
  • Work closely with structural engineers to translate engineering designs and calculations into accurate construction documentation.
  • Prepare drawings for structural systems including reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry, timber and foundations.
  • Coordinate structural drawings and models with Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and other disciplines to support integrated project delivery.
  • Identify and help resolve drawing, modelling and interdisciplinary coordination issues.
  • Incorporate engineering comments, design revisions, mark-ups and client requirements into drawings and models.
  • Assist with drawing packages from concept and design development through construction documentation.
  • Support construction administration activities, including drawing revisions, RFIs, shop drawing coordination and resolution of site-related design issues.
  • Participate in project coordination meetings and design reviews as required.
  • Support engineers and project teams with field information and documentation following site reviews.
  • Perform drawing checks and support QA/QC activities to maintain accuracy, consistency and established project standards. The Toronto West structural team specifically incorporates QA/QC into its project delivery activities.
  • Collaborate with engineers and BIM/CAD professionals across Arcadis offices and contribute to multidisciplinary project delivery.
  • Maintain organised drawing files, models, reference files and other project documentation.
  • Stay current with evolving CAD, BIM and digital design workflows and contribute to improvements in drawing and modelling efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Structural Engineering Technology, Architectural Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 3–7 years of relevant structural drafting/design experience in building or infrastructure projects, consistent with the experience range in your existing Structural Designer description.
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD and experience producing structural construction drawings.
  • Proficiency with Revit and experience developing coordinated BIM models is strongly preferred. Your existing Structural Designer description specifically identifies proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Experience preparing structural plans, sections, details and drawing packages.
  • Familiarity with structural systems and materials, including reinforced concrete, structural steel, masonry and timber.
  • Understanding of applicable building codes, construction practices and structural drafting standards.
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary design teams and coordinating structural work with other disciplines.
  • Knowledge of BIM coordination and clash-detection workflows is an asset.
  • Experience with construction-phase services, field reviews or shop drawing/RFI coordination is an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate, well-coordinated construction documents.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment.
