Summary
Ready for a huge opportunity to build the AI-powered marketing engine of an AI-first company?
As the Marketing Intern, you set up and run the automated, AI-assisted processes behind DataMap's marketing: content generation, copywriting, SEO, top-of-funnel lead generation, advertising, and blogging. You review and edit what the AI drafts, do the design and web development work yourself with AI tools, and work directly with stakeholders across DataMap on what they need. DataMap leadership sets marketing strategy and priorities, mentors you, and approves all published work and all spending, which stays within approved budgets.
Interns who deliver reliable systems and strong work on deadline may be considered for openings in DataMap's posted entry-level marketing roles, such as Marketing Assistant I; Marketing Coordinator I; Growth Marketing Associate I; Marketing Analyst I; or Marketing, Advertising & Public Relations Coordinator I. Those roles continue through the Marketing, Advertising & Public Relations Associate levels (I through V) into marketing leadership and, over a career, executive leadership. A full-time role isn't promised when the internship ends.

Your Role and Responsibilities
AI marketing systems and review
- Build and document the AI-assisted pipelines that run DataMap's marketing, from research and briefs through drafting, review, approval, publishing, and measurement.
- Create the prompt libraries, brand-voice guides, templates, and briefs the pipelines use, and measure each pipeline's speed, quality, and results.
- Review and edit every AI-generated draft for accuracy, brand voice, and fit with business goals, and keep messaging consistent across every channel.
- Fact-check claims and sources, confirm DataMap has permission before any client is named or quoted, and check copyright and usage rights on images and AI-generated assets.
Content, design, and website
- Produce blog posts, case studies, whitepapers, video scripts, and website content with AI assistance, and edit them into finished work for leadership approval.
- Draft brand messaging, taglines, and sales collateral such as brochures and pitch decks, and refine the positioning with leadership.
- Design and build website updates, landing pages, and graphics yourself with AI design and development tools, work with stakeholders on what they need, and queue each change for leadership approval before it goes live.
- Set up automated SEO workflows for everything DataMap publishes, and use traffic data and A/B tests to improve conversion.
Lead generation, advertising, and communications
- Build automated top-of-funnel outreach and email nurture programs for new prospects and partners. These programs don't target existing clients, follow email-consent, opt-out, and data-privacy requirements, and get leadership approval before every send.
- Build AI-assisted newsletters and client success stories for existing clients and industry partners, coordinated with each client's project manager and approved by leadership before every send.
- Generate and test ad copy and creative across search, social, and video channels, and queue each variant for leadership approval before it runs.
- Run campaigns within approved budgets once leadership signs off on the spend, track spend against the budget, and report on advertising ROI.
- Draft social posts, replies within approved response guidelines, press releases, and media pitches for leadership approval, and draft thought-leadership pieces for each executive to review and approve.
Research, planning, and internal communications
- Automate market, competitor, and audience research, and help define the ideal client profiles and segments that sales and business development target.
- Build dashboards for traffic, engagement, lead conversion, brand mentions, and marketing ROI, and turn the data into short recommendations for leadership, sales, and product.
- Maintain the editorial calendar with leadership, help plan integrated campaigns, webinars, events, and co-branded partner content, and track the results.
- Draft internal newsletters and announcements, and help HR build onboarding and training materials.
Education and Experience
- Actively enrolled in a marketing course at a community college or a four-year college or university (required).
- Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to turn a rough draft, AI-generated or not, into accurate, finished copy.
- Demonstrated use of AI assistants (such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot) for writing, research, or creative work. Come ready to show examples.
- Comfort with numbers, spreadsheets (such as Google Sheets or Excel), and basic analytics.
- Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities on deadline.
- Clear communication with executives and stakeholders, and the ability to act on feedback and take responsibility for your work.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week in person at DataMap's office in Overland Park, Kansas. This role is not remote.
- Coursework or projects in copywriting, content marketing, SEO, digital advertising, social media, or public relations are a plus.
- Experience building AI-assisted workflows, using AI tools for design or web development, or using marketing tools such as HubSpot, WordPress, Canva, Google Analytics, or Google Ads is a plus.
- A portfolio, blog, or social presence that shows your writing or creative work is a plus.
