About the role

E-3 NATO AWACS Field Service Representative (Mid-Level and Senior) - Germany

Company:

Boeing Aerospace Operations

Boeing Global Services (BGS) is seeking Field Service Representatives to provide technical support the Final Lifetime Extension Program (FLEP) for NATO E‑3 AWACS, associated mission/ground systems, and the Facility for Interoperability Testing (MCTR / SIL / SDE) at Geilenkirchen Air Base, Germany.

This is an on‑site, long‑term assignment (up to 3 years) providing hands‑on ISS (In Service Support), field engineering assistance, OJT, troubleshooting, and acceptance/test support for aircraft mission systems and ground systems (MPDS/DMPDS/IFGS/SIL/SDE)

Unlike most FSR roles responsible for supporting aircraft maintenance, this position is primarily focused on mission systems software and satellite communication. Supporting general aircraft maintenance and the AWACS radar system hardware beyond mission avionics/software may fall outside the responsibilities of this position. Prior hands-on system administration and SATCOM experience with E-3 NATO FLEP, E-3 AWACS, or other AEWC platforms is needed to be successful in this role. FSRs are the in-person Boeing "face" to the customer, so personal appearance (grooming and dress), a helpful and friendly demeanor, and the ability to speak and write in a professional, unambiguous manner while working unsupervised for extended periods of time are paramount.

Working hours will nominally be 5 days a week (M-F), 8 hours per day. Additionally, FSRs must be willing to work flexible hours (i.e., on-call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week) as the job requires. At the sole discretion of leadership, an FSR must be willing and able (on potentially short notice) to deploy/travel to a variety of locations (domestic and international) and for a variety of deployment durations to meet customer needs and the statement of work. Unless compelling reasons exist, failure to deploy/travel will be considered as a resignation.

This is a Long-Term Assignment to Germany for up to 3 years. Relocation/assignment benefits to the international location will be provided. Offers will be contingent upon the candidate’s ability to obtain clearances from International Health Services (as required) and the receipt of a visa/work permit for Germany, if applicable. This also applies to any/all family members who may be relocating with the candidate.

You are applying for a Field Operations position where our employees must be willing and able (potentially short notice) to travel to a variety of locations (domestic and/or international) to meet the needs of our customers.

Field Operations employees may be required to relocate to another Field Operations location based on customer needs and/or management requirements.

Specific contracts supported by Field Operations could require employees to perform a deployment to a US DOD contingency operation. Employees associated with these specific contracts must be able to pass military contractor health standards for deployment.

Position Responsibilities to include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing technical guidance in the normal operation and maintenance of E-3 NATO FLEP aircraft mission systems, ground systems, and support equipment
  • Supporting on-aircraft mission system hardware and software troubleshooting/reloads, as requested
  • Serve as on‑site technical expert and field service lead for NATO FLEP aircraft and ground systems (Operational and Development Systems)
  • Provide hands‑on installation, configuration, and sustainment for Mission Computing OS/software loads, mission applications, simulation, DLGW/STG, DSU/RAID, OOM, NetApp, and IFGS/MPDS/DMPDS systems
  • Execute fault isolation, repair, replacement of FRUs, BIOS/CMOS troubleshooting, and checkout procedures for mission and ground subsystems; support depot‑level MCOS loads in the field when required by engineering
  • Support and manage DSU/RAID rebuilds and DSU hardware inspections (mdadm diagnostics, drive replacement, resync)
  • Configure, validate, and test DLGW and STG interfaces for Link‑11/Link‑16 and 1553 integration; import/verify gateway configs, terminal init files, and time sync behavior
  • Diagnose and remediate Mission Computing integration issues, SimConfig/SimController/AwsSim exceptions
  • Troubleshoot NAS/OOM mount issues, NetApp/cluster issues, and offload script failures
  • Provide OJT and informal training for NATO maintenance and ground‑system users; document lessons learned
  • Assist with ATP/acceptance tests, configuration management, software requirements meetings, and provide input to technical publications (VECTOR Tech Requests, Pubs Change Requests, AFTO‑22s)
  • Support TCTO/field‑level modifications and coordinate with off‑site engineering on issues exceeding field authority
  • Capture, package and escalate forensic logs and evidence to engineering (e.g., journalctl, dmesg, mdadm output, AwsSim logs, DARE/HAIPE audit)
  • Support COMSEC/HAIPE/DaR procedures as required (audit capture before tamper/zeroize); coordinate with NATO COMSEC managers
  • Participate in maintenance cross‑talks, TIMs, LWG, and other program meetings; report contractor labor hours per NATO reporting requirements
  • Mid-Level: Can perform the above tasks with little or general supervision
  • Senior Level: Serves as subject matter expert to management
