Position Summary:
The Credit Department plays a critical role in protecting eCapital's portfolio by assessing risk, establishing appropriate credit exposure levels, and monitoring debtor performance across our client base.
We are seeking a Senior Credit Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will possess strong analytical abilities, exceptional attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of commercial credit risk management.
This role offers the opportunity to work closely with executive leadership, influence key credit decisions, mentor junior team members, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the department.
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assess the creditworthiness of current and prospective debtors, including freight brokers, shippers, and other commercial customers in the United States and Canada, through detailed analysis of financial statements, credit reports, payment history, and other relevant information.
  • Establish debtor credit limits within delegated authority and recommend limits above that authority to senior management and the Executive Credit Committee.
  • Review the quality and concentration of prospective clients' accounts receivable portfolios to ensure key debtors meet eCapital's credit criteria.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Underwriting, Operations, and Executive Leadership to evaluate opportunities and provide credit risk recommendations.
  • Prepare comprehensive written credit proposals and recommendations for presentation to the Executive Credit Committee on the largest and most complex debtor exposures.
  • Handle escalated and complex debtor credit requests from the analyst team, and review junior analysts’ work for quality and consistency.
  • Monitor existing debtor relationships to ensure compliance with approved credit parameters, obtain and analyze updated financial statements, and identify emerging risks such as slowing payment, authority revocations, or fraud indicators.
  • Manage debtor concentration risk at the client and portfolio level, and communicate material concerns or adverse trends to management.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and best practices designed to strengthen credit risk controls, and identify process improvements, software enhancements, and operational efficiencies.
  • Train, develop, and mentor new and existing team members.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders on credit-related matters and requests.
  • Participate in special projects and perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial credit analysis, risk management, or a related financial discipline.
  • Experience analyzing commercial businesses of varying sizes and industries.
  • Previous experience within the factoring, asset-based lending, commercial finance, banking, or fintech industry is a strong asset; experience with transportation or freight broker credit is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of financial statement analysis, financial ratios, and accounting standards (US GAAP, and IFRS/ASPE for Canadian companies).
  • Experience reviewing and interpreting commercial credit reports from providers such as Dun & Bradstreet, Moody's Analytics, and other industry sources.
  • Working knowledge of both US and Canadian commercial credit markets.
Required skills:
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to clearly communicate complex financial information and credit recommendations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate risk and make sound credit decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective relationships across departments and organizational levels.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, financial modeling) and proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint; experience with BI or reporting tools is an asset.
