About the role

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Head of Tax Information Reporting based in Netherlands.

As Head of Tax Information Reporting, you will lead the development and execution of a global tax reporting function within a fast-paced, international digital asset environment. You will oversee compliance with evolving international tax transparency regulations, including CARF, DAC8, CRS 2.0, FATCA, and US Form 1099-DA. Combining technical tax expertise with strong data and operational capabilities, you will ensure the accuracy, consistency, and timely submission of regulatory reports across multiple jurisdictions. You will establish robust reporting policies, quality controls, and scalable data processes while managing external reporting vendors and collaborating with cross-functional teams. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity to build a high-performing function, influence global compliance strategy, and strengthen regulatory readiness across a complex, multi-entity organization. The role offers the opportunity to shape critical reporting infrastructure while working with senior stakeholders, engineers, tax specialists, and local compliance teams.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the end-to-end global tax information reporting lifecycle across CARF, DAC8, CRS 2.0, FATCA, and US Form 1099-DA, covering reportable population identification, self-certification, data extraction, reconciliation, file preparation, quality assurance, submissions, corrections, and tax authority inquiries.

  • Define and maintain reporting data specifications, including user populations, transaction categories, account balances, jurisdictional aggregation rules, and reconciliation requirements. Partner with Product and Data Engineering teams to develop, implement, and test reliable reporting pipelines.

  • Establish and oversee a comprehensive quality assurance framework, including source-to-report reconciliations, XML schema validation, self-certification checks, and cross-entity consistency controls. Maintain final approval authority over reporting files before submission.

  • Manage the tax reporting platform vendor, overseeing contractual scope, delivery schedules, testing cycles, output validation, issue resolution, and annual performance and renewal assessments.

  • Develop group-wide tax reporting policies and interpret applicable regulations, including rules governing reportable crypto-assets, transfers to unhosted wallets, staking and rewards, retail payment thresholds, tax residency, and taxpayer identification numbers (TINs), consulting Legal and external tax advisers where appropriate.

  • Own the global tax self-certification framework within customer onboarding, including validation requirements, refresh triggers, and remediation initiatives for existing customers, in collaboration with Compliance and Product teams.

  • Design and oversee processes for restricting undocumented accounts under applicable DAC8 and CARF requirements, including restriction criteria, reason codes, customer communications, automated implementation, and ongoing monitoring.

  • Maintain a global regulatory readiness tracker covering domestic legislation, entity registration, self-certification coverage, and reporting deadlines. Provide weekly updates to senior compliance leadership and monthly reports to the relevant regulatory steering committee.

  • Build and lead a small, senior-level team, leveraging external vendors and advisers to support scalability. Coordinate with and train local compliance teams and legal entity representatives on reporting obligations and operational procedures.

  • Support independent testing, compliance monitoring, risk assessments, and internal audits. Ensure reporting decisions, controls, reconciliations, and submissions are fully documented and reproducible, and assist with tax authority examinations.

  • Requirements:

    • At least 7 years of experience in tax information reporting, tax operations, or regulatory data reporting within a global exchange, brokerage, bank, fintech, or digital asset business, including a minimum of 3 years in a team leadership role.

    • Demonstrated hands-on experience in an international digital asset environment, with a strong understanding of exchange or wallet transaction data, multi-entity structures, and customers across multiple jurisdictions.

    • Strong data analysis and technical capabilities, including SQL proficiency, the ability to define clear data specifications for engineering teams, reconcile large transaction datasets against ledger records, investigate discrepancies, and implement robust data quality controls.

    • Working knowledge of CARF, DAC8, CRS, and FATCA, including due diligence obligations, self-certification requirements, reportable transaction categories, and relevant XML reporting schemas. Direct experience implementing CARF or DAC8 is strongly preferred.

    • Experience managing external tax reporting vendors or regulatory reporting platforms, including defining requirements, coordinating testing, validating outputs, and ensuring delivery against strict deadlines.

    • Proven ability to establish or scale a reporting function, develop policies and control frameworks, build a team, and manage the implementation of an end-to-end reporting cycle.

    • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex tax and data issues clearly to executives, engineers, and local compliance teams, and to lead cross-functional steering committees.

    • Excellent judgment, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail, with the ability to identify and escalate risks appropriately while coordinating effectively across US, European, and Asian time zones.

    • A proactive, hands-on leadership approach, with a strong sense of accountability and a proven track record of meeting regulatory reporting deadlines.

    • Additional assets include experience with US Form 1099-DA or 1099-B reporting, backup withholding, or Qualified Intermediary reporting; large-scale undocumented account remediation under DAC8 or equivalent regulations; and GDPR compliance for tax authority data sharing, including data protection impact assessments.

    • Familiarity with Python or similar scripting languages, data warehouse platforms such as Databricks, and the Three Lines Model, including second-line monitoring and Internal Audit, is advantageous.

    • A CPA qualification, chartered tax adviser credential, or equivalent professional certification is beneficial, as is a degree in data science, computer science, accounting, or a related discipline.

    • Benefits:

      • Competitive total compensation package.

      • Learning and development programs to support professional growth.

      • Education subsidies to encourage continuous learning and skills development.

      • Team-building initiatives and company-wide events that foster collaboration and connection.

      • Comprehensive healthcare coverage for employees and their dependants.

      • Opportunities to work in a diverse, international, and collaborative environment.

      • Additional benefits and development opportunities to be discussed during the recruitment process.
