Lead Engineer

JOB OVERVIEW:

We are seeking an experienced PostgreSQL Database Developer to design, develop, optimize, and support enterprise database solutions, with PostgreSQL as the primary platform and Oracle as a secondary platform. The role focuses on PostgreSQL database programming, SQL development, performance, and maintainability, with collaboration across application development, QA, infrastructure, migration, and support teams. Experience with Linux Shell scripting, database support, troubleshooting, migration, and performance optimization is an advantage.

 

CORE DELIVERABLES:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and reliable database solutions primarily using PostgreSQL, with Oracle as a secondary platform.
• Develop, review, and optimize PostgreSQL SQL queries, functions, procedures, triggers, and other database components; apply Oracle equivalents as needed.
• Apply relational database concepts and sound practices in database design, indexing, query optimization, and performance tuning.
• Perform database performance analysis and tuning to support efficient and reliable application performance.
• Participate in database migrations, data conversions, upgrades, deployments, and data validation and reconciliation activities.
• Troubleshoot database-related issues across development, testing, and production environments; investigate root causes and implement sustainable fixes.
• Collaborate with application development, QA, infrastructure, migration, and support teams to deliver database solutions on schedule.
• Identify opportunities to automate and standardize database and operational activities, and develop reusable solutions to reduce manual effort.
• Follow Agile delivery practices and contribute to quality-focused, maintainable solutions.
• Take on other duties as assigned in support of team and business objectives; responsibilities may evolve over time.

 

ESSENTIAL ATTRIBUTES AND CAPABILITIES:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical discipline.
• 5-8+ years of relevant experience in database development or programming.
• Strong hands-on experience developing and programming with PostgreSQL; working experience with Oracle Database as well.
• Strong PostgreSQL SQL skills, including complex queries, functions, procedures, triggers, and database objects; familiarity with Oracle PL/SQL is a plus.
• Experience with database deployment, data processing, migration or conversion, and data validation activities.
• Ability to troubleshoot database and application-related issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, including with geographically distributed teams.
• Working knowledge of Agile software development methodologies.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Strong knowledge of Linux Shell scripting for database processing, automation, deployments, or operational activities.
• Experience with PostgreSQL performance tuning, query optimization, and execution plan analysis; Oracle performance tuning experience is an advantage.
• Experience in database or application production support and troubleshooting.
• Experience with large-scale database migration, data conversion, or application upgrade projects.
• Experience developing automation utilities or scripts for database operations and repetitive activities.
• Exposure to enterprise applications with high-volume data processing and complex database environments.
• Exposure to cloud database environments and database migration technologies.
