About the role

Position Title:
Open Rank Adjunct Faculty Visual and Performing Arts

Position Summary:
AUIB is seeking qualified faculty in the Visual and Performing Arts to teach introductory Core Liberal Arts (CLA) courses and help build the university’s arts offerings, with priority needs in:

  • Visual Arts (studio art, drawing, painting, design, photography)
  • Art History and Appreciation
  • Music (music appreciation, performance, ensemble direction)
  • Theatre and Drama
  • Film and Media Arts

Full-time applicants may be asked to teach additional General Education courses according to their expertise if needed. Appointments may be made on an adjunct (part-time, per credit hour), visiting, or full-time basis, requiring in-person teaching on campus.

Faculty will contribute to AUIB’s mission of providing a strong liberal arts foundation by delivering high-quality, student-centered instruction in English-medium classrooms. Courses are delivered in English and fluency is required.

In addition to teaching assigned courses, successful candidates will play a founding role in shaping AUIB’s arts curriculum — proposing new courses and developing co-curricular arts activities such as exhibitions, performances, and student ensembles.

Key Responsibilities:
•    Teach assigned arts courses using active, student-centered, and inclusive learning methods across studio, performance, and lecture formats.
•    Prepare course materials, syllabi, and assessments that align with program learning outcomes; identify materials, equipment, and facility needs for studio or performance courses.
•    Evaluate student performance fairly and promptly; provide constructive feedback through critiques, reviews, and assessments appropriate to the arts.
•    Hold office hours to provide guidance, mentoring, and academic assistance.
•    Contribute to building AUIB’s arts curriculum and campus arts culture, including exhibitions, performances, and student arts activities.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
1.    Understanding of American Higher Education: Familiarity with the structure and processes of the American university system.
2.    Strong Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
3.    Practicing Artist-Teacher: An active record of creative practice, exhibition, or performance alongside a commitment to teaching.
4.    Student Engagement: Skill in engaging students of varied backgrounds and experience levels, including beginners.
5.    Effective Teaching: Capable of simplifying complex ideas, creating engaging lectures, and fostering active learning.

Education and Experience:
•    Required Education: Master’s degree in a relevant arts discipline (MFA, MA, or equivalent).
•    Preferred Education: Terminal degree in the field
•    Experience: Prior university-level teaching experience strongly preferred; experience teaching in English-medium instruction is highly desirable.
•    A minimum of one year of teaching experience; an active professional creative practice (exhibition, performance, or production) is an asset
