As part of the US macro team, you will help formulate and refine the firm's views on the US economy, including the outlook for growth, inflation, labor markets, and Federal Reserve policy. You will closely monitor incoming economic data, assess how new information affects the outlook, and use quantitative models to identify risks to the team's views. You will report to the Chief US Economist and work closely with members of the broader Global Macroeconomic Research Team.
This is a hybrid position based in Newark, NJ, with an expectation of being in the office three days per week.
This role is ideal for someone currently working on, or with experience supporting, a US economics or macroeconomic research team within a financial institution, central bank, think tank, or similar research environment.
What you can expect
- Own and contribute to the tracking, analysis, and forecasting of key US economic indicators, assessing incoming data, underlying components, and revisions to refine the team's views on growth, inflation, labor markets, and Federal Reserve policy.
- Building, refining, and maintaining macroeconomic models for growth, inflation, and other key variables.
- Building new charts and analytical tools for tracking and assessing US data; developing access to new data sets; expanding the macro team’s data analysis toolkit.
- Further developing macroeconomic and financial databases and automating related chart books.
- Supporting the research and other analytical work of regional economists and strategists on the team.
What you will bring
- 5–7 years of relevant experience analyzing and forecasting the US economy, ideally within a financial institution, central bank, think tank, or economic research organization.
- Hands-on experience building, testing, maintaining, and interpreting macroeconomic forecasting models and regression-based analyses.
- Demonstrated experience tracking and forecasting US economic data across areas such as growth, inflation, labor markets, consumption, and Federal Reserve policy.
- Strong knowledge of US macroeconomics and the ability to interpret incoming data, including underlying components, revisions, and implications for the economic outlook.
- Strong quantitative and programming skills, with hands-on experience using Python, Stata, EViews, R, or similar analytical tools.
- Experience working with economic and financial datasets and platforms such as Haver Analytics, Bloomberg, or similar sources.
- Ability to communicate quantitative findings and economic conclusions clearly to both technical and investment audiences.
- B.A. or M.A. in Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
What will set you apart?
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks under tight deadlines.
- Excellent writing skills; prior experience writing up US data releases and related market commentary preferred
- Capacity to work well both independently and as a team member
