About the role

THE OPPORTUNITY

Williams Parker, the region’s oldest law firm founded in 1925, is seeking a USPTO-registered Patent Attorney with 5+ years of experience to join and help expand the Firm’s Intellectual Property practice.

This opportunity is suited for an attorney who enjoys both patent practice and broader intellectual property counseling. The successful candidate will work with inventors, entrepreneurs, manufacturers, technology companies, and closely held businesses to protect innovation, commercialize intellectual property, and address the legal needs that arise as their businesses grow.

The role offers hands-on responsibility, close collaboration with experienced attorneys across the Firm, and meaningful opportunities to help build a full-service intellectual property platform in a growing market. Experienced IP paralegal support assists with filings and docketing, allowing the attorney to focus on substantive legal work, client service, and professional growth.

THE WORK YOU WILL LEAD

As a member of Williams Parker's Intellectual Property practice group, you will:

  • Secure and manage patent rights. Prepare and prosecute patent applications, respond to Office actions, conduct patentability and prior-art analyses, and support domestic and international patent portfolios before the USPTO.
  • Support a broad intellectual property practice. Assist with trademark registration, copyright, trade secret, website and application matters, cease-and-desist correspondence, domain name disputes, and related intellectual property counseling.
  • Structure and commercialize intellectual property assets. Draft and negotiate licenses, technology agreements, confidentiality agreements, assignments, and commercial contracts involving intellectual property rights.
  • Collaborate across sophisticated business matters. Support intellectual property due diligence and contract review in corporate transactions, and partner with attorneys in Corporate, Litigation, Labor & Employment, Healthcare, Real Estate, Tax, and Trusts & Estates.
  • Help grow the patent practice. Build client relationships, participate in business development and educational initiatives, and contribute to efficient systems and institutional knowledge within the Firm’s Intellectual Property practice.

  • Practical and collaborative approach. The ability to translate complex legal and technical concepts into clear advice, manage matters efficiently, and work across practice groups as client needs evolve.
  • Commitment to growth. An interest in developing client relationships, expanding substantive skills, and helping build the Firm’s patent and broader intellectual property capabilities. A portable book of business is welcome but not required.
  • Professional credentials. Juris Doctor from an ABA-accredited law school and membership in The Florida Bar, or admission elsewhere and a commitment to sit for the Florida Bar Examination.
