Principal Software Engineer
About the role
About Bluefin
Bluefin is Endpoint Clinical's clinical supply forecasting and planning platform. We help our users explore supply scenarios, anticipate risk, and make informed decisions through sub-second simulations of complex supply chains. Our Rust simulation engine runs directly in the browser through WebAssembly.
We believe powerful software should be straightforward to use. We design workflows that don't require a manual and take pride in quickly bringing value to our users.
The Role
We're hiring a hands-on principal engineer to help shape Bluefin, its engineering team, and engineering practices across Endpoint. You'll work across UX/UI design, frontend and backend development, and the simulation engine, connecting an intuitive user experience with complex forecasting behavior.
Alongside our technical lead, you'll mentor engineers, challenge established approaches and grow toward independent technical ownership of the platform. This is an individual contributor role with broad influence and substantial hands-on work.
Responsibilities
-
Partner with Product to uncover underlying user needs, challenge assumptions, and turn ambiguous problems into practical solutions.
-
Design and build intuitive interfaces, maintaining coherent workflows, and a consistent user experience as the product evolves.
-
Lead features and substantial refactors across the stack, understanding dependencies, and managing the consequences of changes beyond the immediate implementation.
-
Own the correctness and security of your work, including AI-assisted output, through meaningful testing and verification.
-
Improve resilience and observability so failures can be detected quickly, contained, and resolved efficiently.
-
Mentor engineers through collaborative problem-solving, technical guidance, and code review, developing their ability to work independently.
-
Drive improvements to architecture, tooling, and engineering practices that reduce complexity, shorten feedback cycles, and improve product quality.

Education
Required Skills
What You'll Bring
-
Strong hands-on experience building production applications with TypeScript, React, and Node.js.
-
Practical UX/UI design skills, supported by solid HTML and CSS fundamentals. You can explain how your design choices help users understand and complete their work.
-
Experience independently delivering complex features and substantial refactors in established codebases.
-
Sound data modeling and SQL skills, with an understanding of how changes affect stored data, calculations, and reporting.
-
Strong software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, state, and memory behavior. You can reason about correctness and performance trade-offs and apply that understanding across languages.
-
Clear technical communication and experience helping other engineers develop their judgment. You can challenge a decision constructively and revise your own position when the evidence warrants it.
Bonus Points
-
Experience developing and testing Rust applications.
-
Experience with systems or performance-sensitive development in languages such as C++, Go, C#, or Java, involving memory allocation, shared data, and copying costs.
-
Experience building interfaces with Tailwind CSS.
-
Experience translating security, data integrity, and compliance requirements into practical engineering controls, including work with SOC 2 or GxP-regulated systems and 21 CFR Part 11 where applicable.
What You'll Learn
Compensation
- Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance.
-
Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
-
401(k) retirement plan.
-
Flexible time off (FTO).
-
Full-time, remote position within the United States.
