About the role

About Torus

Torus is headquartered in Utah and is expanding manufacturing at our 545,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City called GigaOne. We are the world’s first mesh energy infrastructure, uniting communities through resilient, sustainable, and intelligent power. We design, engineer, manufacture, install, and support our systems end-to-end, standing behind them throughout their lifecycle. Torus systems help reduce costs, lower emissions, and protect facilities from outages, while strengthening the security and reliability of the broader utility grid. Torus is committed to American manufacturing, engineering excellence, and building energy systems that last.

Torus has raised over $267 million from investors like Magnetar, Mercado, ICONIQ and Origin Ventures. The investments are helping to accelerate deployment of modular power plants across utilities, data centers, and industrial sectors. This investor confidence reflects the strength of our team, technology as well as the scale of the problem we are solving.

At Torus, you will be part of something larger than a single product or technology. Your work will help build energy infrastructure that supports and strengthens our electrical grid, critical  systems, industry, and communities for decades to come. We value accountability, collaboration, and clear thinking. We are looking for people who want to solve hard problems and build things that matter.

About the Role

As a Supplier Quality and Reliability Engineer on the Quality team, you will own the Torus Supplier Quality Program, the framework we use to tier, qualify, approve, monitor, and improve the suppliers behind our energy products. You will be key to ensuring the performance, long-term reliability, and build quality into the components feeding our advanced energy products. You will take end-to-end ownership of supplier quality initiatives, from setting and communicating Torus supplier expectations and approving new suppliers, to auditing and validating domestic and international supplier manufacturing processes and closing out complex systemic quality issues. Acting as a crucial bridge between Suppliers, Engineering, Quality, Procurement, and Operations. Your technical expertise will ensure that performance data and quality lessons learned directly inform our future design and manufacturing standards at Torus.

Who You Are

You are an analytical, hands-on engineer with a relentless focus on quality, reliability, and continuous improvement. You excel at methodical problem-solving and possess the technical confidence to investigate complex failures down to the root cause. Grounded in clear thinking and collaboration, you effectively influence external global supply partners and internal technical teams alike to elevate manufacturing standards, drive permanent corrective actions, and protect the company and our customers. You are equally comfortable writing a procedure, auditing a production line, and presenting supplier performance to leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Own, maintain, and continuously improve the Torus Supplier Quality Program, including the Supplier Quality Manual, supplier qualification and approval procedures, supplier letters and forms, and the Approved Supplier List (ASL).
  • Lead supplier corrective actions (SCAR/8D) and improvement initiatives, driving systemic quality issues to closure through structured methodologies.
  • Assign supplier risk tiers (Critical, Important, Standard) and manage new suppliers through the approval pathways (prototype, limited-production exception, or full approval), including document review, part and supplier risk assessments, and recommendations to the Supplier Review Board.
  • Manage RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) and warranty return programs, coordinating supplier failure analysis, performing defect trend analysis, enforcing permanent corrective actions and preventative actions (CAPA) with suppliers, and feeding lessons learned back to our internal teams.
  • Conduct root cause investigations using formal analytical frameworks including 8D, 5 Why, FMEA, fishbone diagrams, and Six-Sigma statistical tools.
  • Serve as the primary technical quality liaison between domestic and international suppliers and internal Quality, Engineering, and Operations teams to translate field and factory learnings into design and process improvements.
  • Plan and perform on-site and remote supplier audits using the Torus audit checklist and Green/Yellow/Red scoring, and lead process validations (PPAP/APQP, FAI) and qualification initiatives for new and existing components, particularly with international suppliers.
  • Audit supplier manufacturing lines, line yields, and quality management systems to identify risks and institute risk mitigation strategies.
  • Review and approve supplier part change notifications (PCN), deviations, and waivers, working with Engineering to define the re-qualification required for each change.
  • Partner with engineering teams during product development to establish component reliability criteria, inspection plans, and critical-to-quality (CTQ) specifications.
  • Monitor approved suppliers through scorecards, certificate and document tracking, and surveillance of sanctions, recalls, and supply risks, and manage escalation (Watch, Probation, Disqualification) when performance or compliance falls short.
  • Track, report, and present supplier quality metrics (DPPM, on-time delivery, SCAR resolution times, RMA trends, audit results) in the monthly Supplier Quality Report and to cross-functional leadership.
  • Partner with Procurement and Legal to communicate Torus expectations to suppliers and administer onboarding requirements, including the Supplier Quality Agreement and restricted-substance, responsible-sourcing, and sanctions screening requirements.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Required Experience

  • Demonstrated experience leading supplier quality management and resolving complex, systemic quality issues with global vendors.
  • Experience building or running supplier approval and qualification programs, including supplier tiering, onboarding documentation, audits, and approved supplier list management.
  • Deep expertise in root cause analysis tools and quality methodologies, including 8D, 5 Why, FMEA, CAPA, and Six Sigma statistical tools..
  • End-to-end ownership of RMA or warranty programs, with a track record of trend identification and execution of permanent corrective actions.
  • Strong technical background working with manufactured hardware products, specifically electronics, electromechanical assemblies, or battery systems.
  • Proven ability to serve as a cross-functional technical liaison between external suppliers and internal Engineering, Quality, and Operations teams.
  • Hands-on experience working with international suppliers, including supplier auditing, process validation, and driving quality improvement initiatives.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems and supplier audit methods, and the ability to write clear procedures, supplier letters, and forms.

Preferred Experience

  • Degree in Supply-Chain Management, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in energy storage, clean technology, electric vehicles, or high-reliability hardware manufacturing environments, including familiarity with safety and certification standards such as UL 1973, UL 9540A, UL 1741, IEC 62619, and UN 38.3.
  • CQE (Certified Quality Engineer), CQA (Certified Quality Auditor), ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, or Six Sigma Green/Black Belt certification.
  • Direct experience with PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) and APQP frameworks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with supply chain compliance topics (restricted substances, conflict minerals, sanctions screening) and with ERP or quality-system tools for managing supplier records.
