Software Engineer, Backend
About the role
About the team
Restaurants run on a stack of tools that rarely talk to each other: one for delivery, another for online orders, another for reservations, another for loyalty, and a till that knows nothing about any of them. The same guest can look like three different customers across three different systems.
DashOS is DoorDash's platform for fixing that. It connects marketplace ordering, direct ordering, reservations, loyalty, guest management, marketing and point of sale around one shared view of the guest, so every product gets smarter as the others are used. DoorDash launched DashOS publicly at Dash Forward in September 2026, and from 2027 more than 80,000 restaurants on leading POS and middleware partners.
DashOS Engineering brings together engineers from across DoorDash, Deliveroo and Wolt into one global organisation, led from London. Our teams cover reservations and guest CRM, digital ordering and omnichannel loyalty, POS and self-order kiosks, AI-powered marketing and Voice AI, and the shared data and integration platforms that connect them. Each team owns its own roadmap. The shared mission is making them work as one system.
About the role
We're looking for a backend-focused Software Engineer to build the high-performance, highly available services that restaurants depend on every day, from booking a table on a Friday night to recognising a regular the moment they order. You'll work closely with other engineers, product managers and designers, and because DashOS is newly launched, you'll help shape how its products connect rather than inheriting decisions someone else already made.
You're excited about this opportunity because you will...
- Design, build, test, deploy and improve backend services for customer-facing features used by restaurants and their guests in markets around the world.
- Own features end to end, from technical design through to launch and ongoing support, including taking part in an on-call rotation to keep systems reliable.
- Work on hard problems in data, latency and scale: unifying guest identity across channels, real-time availability search across thousands of venues, and integrations with the systems restaurants already run.
- Build on DoorDash's global platform, so the features you ship can reach restaurants across DoorDash, Deliveroo and Wolt markets rather than being rebuilt for each one.
- Work in a modern engineering environment with frequent daily releases, feature flags and AI coding agents used across code review, deployment and debugging.
- Partner with engineers, product managers and designers across London and other DashOS locations to decide what to build and how.
We're excited about you because...
- You have 3+ years of professional software engineering experience, and a degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- You've built and operated backend services or web applications in production, with strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms and system design.
- You're fluent in at least one modern backend language (we mostly use Python), and you're happy to pick up new languages and tools as the platform evolves.
- You care about the people using what you build, and you take ownership of technical solutions from first design to production.
- You use AI coding tools as part of how you work, or you're keen to, and you're comfortable reviewing and taking responsibility for what they produce.
- You enjoy collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve problems that don't have an obvious answer yet.
Tech you'll work with
Our services are built mainly in Python, with performance-critical systems in Rust, running on Google Cloud and DoorDash's global platform. AI coding agents are part of how we design, review and ship code, so we care more about how you solve problems than about which languages you've used before. You won't need to know every part of the stack on day one.
Where and how we work
This role is based in our London office at The River Building, on a hybrid pattern of 3 days a week in the office.
About SevenRooms
In 2011, Joel Montaniel, Allison Page, and Kinesh Patel founded SevenRooms after noticing that hospitality operators were missing a critical ingredient in the systems they were using to run their business: guest data. What began as a mission to help restaurants better understand and serve their guests evolved into a powerful platform used by merchants around the world.
With best-in-class tools for marketing, operations, and guest experience — all deeply integrated with its industry-leading CRM — SevenRooms empowers operators to drive revenue, streamline operations, and deliver experiences that keep guests coming back.
In 2025, DoorDash acquired SevenRooms to strengthen its in-store strategy and expand its merchant-first offerings. The combination brings together DoorDash’s scale, reach, and digital innovation with SevenRooms’ in-store capabilities to support hospitality businesses across every channel — from discovery and delivery to on-premise dining.
As DoorDash builds out its in-store capabilities, SevenRooms plays a central role in enabling merchants to grow their businesses and connect more meaningfully with guests, whether they’re ordering online or dining in. This move reflects DoorDash’s broader commitment to empowering local businesses, fostering stronger connections between consumers and the places they love, and building technology that meets merchants — and their customers — wherever they are.
