Job Description

The Truckee Meadows Community College's Office of Foundation and Sponsored Programs is seeking an experienced and dynamic Foundation Director to lead and strengthen the College's private philanthropy program. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Foundation and Sponsored Programs, the Director will play a key role in expanding philanthropic support for student success, workforce development, and institutional priorities. This position provides an exciting opportunity to build donor and corporate partnerships, advance major fundraising initiatives and campaigns, oversee donor stewardship and scholarship programs, and lead a collaborative Foundation team. The ideal candidate will bring strong fundraising experience, exceptional communication and writing skills, and a demonstrated ability to build relationships and translate institutional priorities into compelling opportunities for philanthropic investment.

The Foundation Director leads TMCC’s private philanthropy program under the strategic leadership of the Associate Vice President of Foundation and Sponsored Programs. The Director provides leadership for annual giving, corporate giving and sponsorships, employee giving, donor stewardship, donor pipeline development, and other broad-based fundraising activities, while also managing an appropriate portfolio of donors and prospects.

Working closely with the Associate Vice President, the Director helps develop and implement the Foundation’s fundraising plan, strengthens the donor and prospect pipeline, and advances institutional fundraising priorities. The Director works collaboratively with the Associate Vice President on capital and special fundraising campaigns, including campaign planning and strategy, prospect identification and cultivation, development of cases for support and donor proposals, solicitation strategies, campaign communications, and stewardship. The Associate Vice President maintains primary leadership for major and principal gifts, Foundation Board leadership, and senior institutional and external relationships.

The Director supervises assigned Foundation staff, including the Scholarship Manager, and provides leadership for fundraising and donor stewardship activities as staffing and organizational needs evolve. The Director works collaboratively with Foundation and Sponsored Programs staff to coordinate development systems, donor and gift administration, reporting, and other shared operational functions.

3. Demonstrated experience cultivating donor relationships, developing fundraising strategies, and securing philanthropic support.

4. Demonstrated ability to develop compelling written fundraising materials, including donor proposals, solicitation letters, or other philanthropic communications.

5. Experience providing leadership, supervision, or coordination of staff, teams, or fundraising initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience in higher education advancement, community college foundations, or nonprofit fundraising organizations.

2. Experience with capital campaigns, major gifts, corporate giving and sponsorships, planned giving, annual giving, and donor stewardship.

3. Demonstrated success in developing cases for support, fundraising proposals, donor impact reports, and other persuasive philanthropic communications.

4. Experience supervising and developing staff, establishing performance goals, and leading collaborative teams.

5. Experience with Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge.

6. Experience developing and implementing fundraising plans, managing budgets, and achieving measurable goals.

7. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, build effective partnerships, and ensure timely follow-through.

Develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies that advance relationships and philanthropic commitments.
  • Partner with the Associate Vice President in planning and implementing capital and special fundraising campaigns, including prospect development, donor cultivation and solicitation, preparation of cases for support and proposals, campaign communications, and stewardship strategies.
  • Lead strategies for the broad middle of the donor base, with attention to renewed giving, increased commitments, and identifying donors ready for major gift conversations.
  • Lead broad-based fundraising and donor engagement strategies, including faculty and staff giving, Giving Tuesday, annual appeals, donor acquisition and retention, and other participation-based efforts.

  • Partner with college leadership, workforce programs, and faculty to develop compelling opportunities for corporate support and clear plans for follow-up and stewardship.
  • Distinguish philanthropic gifts from sponsorships, grants, and other institutional partnerships, and coordinate with the appropriate colleagues on each opportunity.

  • Oversee the integration of scholarship administration and donor stewardship, working with the Scholarship Manager to strengthen relationships between scholarship donors, recipients, and the Foundation and to demonstrate the impact of philanthropic support.
  • Lead broad-based fundraising activities and donor portfolio management, retaining responsibility for strategy, execution, and results while effectively delegating responsibilities as Foundation staffing and capacity evolve.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Sponsored Programs on prospects or projects that may involve both private philanthropy and sponsored funding; maintain clear responsibilities for each team.
