Fleet Management maintains more than 2,500 vehicles and pieces of equipment that support essential City and County of Denver operations. The team is committed to maintaining vehicle availability at 95% or higher while managing maintenance costs, fleet replacement planning, vehicle and equipment procurement, and fuel contracts.

DOTI is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Fleet Maintenance Manager to lead maintenance and repair operations for the City’s diverse fleet. This role will focus on improving operational efficiency, strengthening vendor and agency partnerships, and ensuring maintenance operations and projects are completed safely, effectively, and within established timelines and budgets. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a commitment to continuous improvement, and the ability to lead, develop, and hold employees accountable while fostering a culture of teamwork and high performance.

Specifically, as a Fleet Maintenance Manager you will:

Provide guidance to subordinates on inquiries regarding the application of policies, procedures, standards, and functional and technical matters.
  • Conduct regular fiscal analyses and present budget recommendations to leaders and executives on behalf of the Fleet Maintenance Division. Establish strategic priorities and allocate limited resources effectively across competing operational demands while balancing immediate service needs with long-term organizational goals.
  • Direct the development of and approve or create work-level procedures, practices, and guidelines to support day-to-day operations. Conduct or coordinate training to support the implementation of and ongoing compliance with new or revised policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Identify unfavorable maintenance trends as they occur. Initiate corrective actions, utilize benchmarking, and revise procedures to improve effectiveness and eliminate deficiencies. Prepare data for presentation in graphic and summary formats. Identify opportunities to advance fleet maintenance operations through innovation, industry best practices, and continuous improvement to enhance customer service and vehicle reliability.
  • Manage section safety and environmental compliance programs. Ensure compliance with applicable standards, coordinate inspections, evaluate findings, and propose recommendations and solutions. Respond to reported safety concerns, evaluate them, and recommend courses of action.
  • Coach, mentor, and challenge staff. Champion continuous improvement by developing new strategies and identifying new opportunities. Lead staff development initiatives that include training, professional development, and succession planning. Establish performance expectations and standards for employees at all levels to achieve or exceed performance metrics and prepare them for future responsibilities. Build trust with frontline employees and supervisors to foster a positive, accountable workplace culture that supports employee engagement, morale, and retention.
  • Build strong partnerships with customer agencies to understand their operational needs and develop collaborative solutions that balance fleet availability, cost-effectiveness, and service expectations.

What You’ll Bring
