About the role

About Lumafield:

Lumafield was founded in 2019 to upgrade manufacturing.

We are engineers with deep experience across the product development cycle, from initial ideas to shipping hardware, across industries and specializations, who became frustrated by the cost and complexity of modern manufacturing. So we decided to upgrade it.

Engineers make million-dollar decisions every day, and they need tools that give them the greatest possible insight into their products. By offering unprecedented visibility into products, as well as AI-driven tools that highlight problems and generate quantitative data, Lumafield promises to revolutionize the way complex products are created, manufactured, and used across industries. We started with industrial CT scanning, which for us was the most valuable but underutilized tool in the manufacturing toolbox, enabling us to rapidly inspect essential components non-destructively.

We rebuilt the whole system, from X-ray capture, to computer vision analysis, to web-based collaboration, to the entire business model, making the most advanced manufacturing tech more accessible to every industry. Our company, like our platform, is designed for upgrades. We’re building for greater intelligence, autonomy, and speed. For deeper vision, operational excellence, and powerful insights. And then we'll upgrade it all again.

Lumafield is headquartered in San Francisco, CA. and has an office in Cambridge, MA.

About the role:

Lumafield is hiring a Finance Engineer into a three-year rotational program across Finance & Accounting. A Finance Engineer is a finance professional who wires systems together, builds AI agents and workflows, then uses them to own real analysis, close work, and operations.

Program overview:

  • Three one-year rotations: FP&A (reporting to the Head of Finance),  Finance Operations, and Record-to-Report (both reporting to the Head of Accounting).
  • A readout to Finance leadership at the end of each rotation covering what you owned, what you built, and what the next Finance Engineer inherits.
  • Rotation managers give structured feedback at the midpoint and end of each year.
  • On completing the third rotation you graduate into a senior role in Finance, Accounting, or another Lumafield team that needs an AI builder with finance judgment.
The working rule on this team:

If you do something twice, write a workflow; if you write the workflow twice, write an agent. The stack you will build on includes NetSuite, Maxio, Ramp, Numeric, HubSpot, Abacum, Databricks, and Claude. Each rotation adds domain context, so after three years you have analytical, modeling, AI building, and AI orchestration skills and broad context across Finance, Accounting, and Lumafield's business and operations.

What you'll do:

  • Own the analysis, modeling, and deliverables for your area, and be accountable for their accuracy and timing.
  • Write skills and apps building on our data lake and source systems rather than waiting on engineering or exporting to spreadsheets.
  • Connect systems and remove workflow bottlenecks: integrations, GL mappings, data flows, and the controls around them.
  • Build and orchestrate AI agents and workflows for the team, with documented review points so the output is audit-ready.
  • Turn recurring work into documented, reusable workflows that the next Finance Engineer can run and improve.
  • Rotation 1: FP&A

  • Own the operating model and forecast in Abacum, including headcount, revenue, cash, and runway, and the monthly variance analysis against plan.
  • Build the board and executive reporting package: ARR, backlog, bookings, deployments, liquidity, and OpEx trends.
  • Support capital markets and M&A work: data rooms, diligence requests, scenario modeling, and lender compliance reporting.
  • Build the forecasting and reporting agents that keep these packages current without manual rebuilds.
  • Rotation 2: Finance Operations

  • Own collections and accounts receivable performance: aging, DSO, cash application, and customer AP portal resolution.
  • Own accounts payable and purchasing in Ramp, including approval workflows, vendor management, and the NetSuite integration.
  • Own monthly revenue recognition under ASC 606 and sales tax compliance in Maxio and Avalara.
  • Automate collections, billing, coding, and reconciliation workflows with AI tooling and measure the cash impact.
  • Own inflows and outflow forecasting of 13 week cash forecast
  • Rotation 3: Record-to-Report

  • Run the month-end close for your areas, including balance sheet reconciliations, flux analysis, and audit-ready workpapers.
  • Own inventory, COGS, fixed assets, and manufacturing cost accounting for our scanner production.
  • Serve as a primary contact for external auditors on the areas you own and maintain the related process and control documentation.
  • Build close agents that draft entries, reconciliations, and flux explanations for human review.
  • About you:

  • Agile: comfortable rotating into a new area every year and adapting as the team, systems, and priorities change.
  • Demonstrated Judgment: makes sound calls with incomplete information and knows when to escalate.
  • Builder mindset: wires systems together, writes skills and workflow automation, and prototypes rather than waiting for someone else to do it.
  • AI fluency: proficient in tools such as Claude and has shipped working workflows or agents with them.
  • Clear communicator and writer; documentation and workpapers can be picked up by someone else.
  • Attention to detail: numbers tie, workpapers stand up to audit, and errors are caught before they leave the team.
  • Continuous improvement mindset: treats every recurring task as a process to shorten, document, or automate.
  • High degree of ownership: takes an area end to end, from the first question to the posted entry, and is accountable for its accuracy and timing.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a quantitative field; MBA or CPA a plus.
  • 2 to 6 years work experience in finance, accounting, FP&A, finance systems, analytics, or a technical role that touched any of these.
  • Bonus:

  • CPA or MBA (a plus, not a requirement).
  • Familiarity with SQL
  • NetSuite, Ramp, Maxio, Abacum, or Databricks experience.
  • Experience in a hardware, manufacturing, or mixed hardware/software business.
  • Lumafield offers both competitive cash and equity compensation, as well as a health & wellness stipend, 401k, parental leave, flexible PTO, commuter benefits, company wide events and more!

Lumafield is committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills, because the more inclusive we are, the better our work will be. Do you feel like your skills don’t meet every single requirement listed? We encourage you to apply anyway – If you’re excited about our technology, the opportunity, and are eager to learn more we’d love to hear from you!
