Senior Technical Lead, CSO Packaging and Labelling
About the role
At Bristol Myers Squibb, our employees often ask, “Who are you working for?”—a question that fuels collaboration, accountability, and urgency in our work. Our purpose-driven culture inspires us to discover, develop, and deliver innovative medicines to prevail over serious diseases. We offer uniquely interesting and meaningful work, opportunities for growth, and a supportive environment that values inclusion, wellbeing, flexibility, and comprehensive benefits. This is work that transforms the lives of patients, and the careers of those who do it.
Every clinical trial depends on the right supplies reaching the right patients at the right time, packaged and labelled exactly as the study requires. In this role, that responsibility is yours.
The Clinical Supply Operations (CSO) group at Bristol Myers Squibb is looking for a Senior Technical Lead to take ownership of packaging and labelling projects at our Moreton site. The role carries genuine responsibility, and it offers the opportunity to contribute to how clinical supply is delivered to patients across our early- and late-stage development portfolio.
What the role offers you
- Meaningful work. Your projects keep clinical trials on schedule, which helps new treatments reach patients sooner.
- Influence. You will lead on packaging within a matrixed environment, across the development pipeline, and represent CSO on global initiatives, so your expertise informs decisions beyond your own site.
- Ownership and progression. You will lead your own projects and investigations, guide colleagues across all aspects of clinical trial packaging and labelling, and lead process improvement work, building a record of leadership that supports your next career step.
- Scope to contribute new thinking. Your clinical packaging experience will be valued, and you will have the opportunity to introduce new approaches to packaging for clinical studies.
- Breadth of experience. You will work with internal teams, vendors and quality colleagues, developing a wider professional network across the organisation.
- Support to develop. BMS invests in its people, and you will have access to training and development as your responsibilities grow.
- Working with AI. You will join a company that invests in AI and puts the latest tools in its people’s hands, helping you build skills that will serve you throughout your career.
About the role
You will manage several clinical supply projects at the same time, bringing together technical knowledge (SAP, packaging requirements and specifications, cGMP), a sound quality approach (deviations, quality risk management, root-cause analysis) and strong working relationships with Clinical Supply Chain, CMC teams, vendors and Quality Assurance.
The role combines project management, technical expertise and problem-solving, and you will be encouraged and supported to explore how AI tools can improve the way we work.
Your responsibilities, and what they offer you
Leading project delivery
- Lead the end-to-end delivery of clinical supplies across assigned studies, partnering with Trial Supply Managers to translate study requirements into effective packaging, labelling and production plans.
- Develop and manage detailed project schedules, coordinating critical inputs including drug product, packaging components, randomisation files and label text to ensure agreed clinical supply timelines are achieved.
- Take ownership of project execution, proactively identifying risks, resolving issues and coordinating cross-functional activities to keep studies on track.
Providing technical expertise
- Act as a subject matter expert in clinical packaging, labelling, demand management and project execution, providing technical input to development matrix teams and other cross-functional stakeholders.
- Represent CSO on site and global initiatives, contributing your expertise to the development and improvement of clinical supply processes and ways of working.
- Develop, review and improve procedures and supporting documentation, helping to shape robust and effective processes across the organisation.
Delivering packaging and labelling operations
- Generate, review and approve packaging and labelling production orders in line with clinical trial designs, product specifications, regulatory requirements and cGMP expectations.
- Create and release Bills of Materials (BOMs) and process orders in SAP, ensuring alignment with relevant trial design considerations, demand and production requirements.
- Compile batch documentation and partner with Quality Assurance to support the timely release of finished clinical supplies to trial sites.
Managing external partners
- Lead the operational delivery of outsourced packaging and labelling activities, working with external partners to ensure quality, timelines, specifications and commercial requirements are achieved.
- Generate and approve specifications for label printing, production and packaging, manage relevant SAP transactions and monitor key vendor milestones.
- Review and approve vendor production documentation, ensuring activities are performed in accordance with cGMP requirements.
Driving quality and compliance
- Maintain a strong focus on quality and compliance throughout project delivery, managing deviations and change controls within the Quality Management System.
- Act as a trained deviation owner and lead investigator, conducting root-cause investigations into quality events and complaints and driving effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Perform sample-match evaluations for blinded clinical studies, providing technical expertise and sound judgement when resolving quality issues.
Providing leadership and innovation
- Provide leadership, technical guidance and coaching across clinical trial packaging and labelling, supporting colleagues and strengthening capability across the team.
- Apply your packaging expertise to identify and introduce innovative solutions that improve the delivery of clinical studies.
- Build strong relationships across functions and influence decisions to achieve the best outcome for patients, studies and the wider clinical supply network.
Continuous improvement and AI development
- Identify and lead opportunities to simplify processes, improve efficiency and strengthen clinical supply performance.
- Explore and adopt AI tools where they improve how clinical supply work is planned and delivered.
- Participate in site and global continuous improvement initiatives, taking ownership of improvements from idea through to implementation.
- Share knowledge and provide training and support to colleagues, while continuing to develop your own technical, project management and leadership capabilities.
