About the role

This requisition has been created to enable students and early-career professionals to register their interest in future opportunities with UL Solutions.

UL Solutions recently attended the University of Portsmouth Graduate Fair and invite students interested in engineering careers to submit their CV for consideration against future openings within our Basingstoke laboratories.

In Basingstoke, our EMC & Wireless Communications Centre of Excellence supports customers in evaluating the electromagnetic compatibility and wireless performance of their products across our EMC, SAR and Radio laboratories.

As we continue to grow, we anticipate future opportunities for students and graduates interested in hands-on laboratory careers. You don't need to know everything from day one. We're looking for people who are curious, practical, enjoy working with technology and want to develop their technical skills in a laboratory environment.

What you could be doing:

  • Supporting engineers and laboratory teams with day-to-day testing activities across our EMC, SAR or Radio laboratories.
  • Preparing products and equipment for testing and helping to set up laboratory test environments.
  • Operating laboratory equipment and instrumentation, with appropriate training and supervision.
  • Supporting EMC, radio frequency or SAR testing and accurately recording test data and results.
  • Following established test methods, laboratory procedures and health and safety requirements.
  • Checking, maintaining and preparing laboratory equipment to help ensure it is ready for testing.
  • Assisting with test documentation, photographs, records and technical reports.
  • Working closely with engineers and other laboratory colleagues to troubleshoot issues and complete testing.
  • Developing your knowledge of EMC, wireless technologies, test equipment and laboratory techniques through practical experience.
  • Contributing to a safe, organised and continuously improving laboratory environment.

What we're looking for:

  • Studying towards, or recently completed, a degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Physics, Engineering Technology or another relevant STEM discipline.
  • A genuine interest in electronics, wireless technologies, radio frequency (RF), EMC or laboratory testing.
  • A practical, hands-on approach and an interest in working with test equipment, electronic products and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Good problem-solving skills, with the curiosity to investigate why something isn't working as expected.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to accurately record test information and results.
  • Ability to follow technical instructions, test methods and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Comfortable working as part of a team and communicating clearly with engineers and other laboratory colleagues.
  • Previous EMC, SAR or Radio testing experience isn't essential. We'll be more interested in your enthusiasm, willingness to learn and desire to develop your technical skills.
