Overview
We are looking for an experienced Senior Semiconductor Equipment Engineer to join Mycronic’s Global Technologies division working within Surfx Technologies, our Applied Plasma business line. It is an exciting time to join our team!
Surfx Technologies is a fast-growing company that offers atmospheric argon plasmas for the high-volume manufacturing of integrated circuits, semiconductor packages, printed circuit boards, and other microelectronic devices. These automated plasma machines are an excellent choice for surface cleaning, activation, and metal oxide removal. The Surfx Technologies team delivers this atmospheric argon plasma technology for assembled products that are less likely to corrode, delaminate, or come unglued during their lifetime. Our customers include the world's leading semiconductor manufacturers and technology companies.
The Senior Semiconductor Equipment Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and continuous improvement of automated plasma equipment for the semiconductor industry. This role leads mechanical engineering activities from initial concept and system design through prototyping, testing, validation, and product launch, applying strong expertise in mechatronics to develop high-precision, reliable equipment. The engineer works closely with electrical, controls, software, and process engineering teams to integrate complex systems and ensure equipment meets performance, quality, and reliability requirements. In collaboration with sales, service, and management, this role also supports troubleshooting, addresses technical challenges, and identifies opportunities to enhance equipment functionality, manufacturability, and overall performance.
Key Responsibilities
Lead mechanical engineering development for turnkey plasma equipment, from initial concept and feasibility through detailed design, prototyping, testing, and product launch
Design and integrate mechanical and mechatronic systems for high-precision, automated plasma tools used in front-end and back-end semiconductor manufacturing
Develop detailed mechanical designs, assemblies, and engineering documentation using SolidWorks, applying GD&T principles to ensure dimensional accuracy, manufacturability, and reliable equipment performance
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, contributing to a collaborative engineering environment and the development of innovative equipment solutions
Collaborate with electrical, controls, software, and process engineering teams to integrate subsystems and deliver complete, reliable equipment solutions
Plan and execute equipment testing, troubleshooting, and design validation to ensure tools meet performance, quality, and reliability requirements, including damage-free and particle-free surface modification
Apply engineering analysis, FMEA, and structured problem-solving methods to identify design risks, resolve technical issues, and improve equipment reliability and performance
Manage engineering project schedules, resources, and deliverables, coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders to keep product development activities on track
Work closely with sales, service, and process engineering teams to address customer requirements, incorporate field feedback, and guide continuous product improvement
Support equipment installation, commissioning, and technical troubleshooting at customer sites worldwide
Experience and Qualifications
Master’s or PhD degree in mechatronics (i.e. mechanical, electrical, etc.)
10 years plus of mechanical tool design experience, preferably in the semiconductor industry or working with high precision equipment applications
Proficiency in SolidWorks, GD&T, and Microsoft project
Knowledge of equipment cleanliness and safety standards (ISO, CE, UL, SEMI, NFPA, etc.)
Strong verbal and written communication as well as project management skills
Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers; work both independently and effectively within a team
