About the role

Job Title: Business Operations Manager
Team: Operations
Location: Onsite - Sawtelle (Between Santa Monica & West LA)
Employment Type: Full-time, Salary, Exempt
Reports To: Director of Business Operations

About Plug
Plug is the marketplace for used electric vehicles. Consumers get an instant cash offer backed by battery-health data, and dealers across the US bid in real time on that inventory. Former Tesla executives founded Plug in 2023. We’ve facilitated $150M in EV sales and raised a $20M Series A led by Lightspeed Venture Partners.

Why Plug

  • You’ll own a piece of the biggest automotive infrastructure opportunity.

  • You’ll work on a platform built exclusively for EVs, with nothing adapted from legacy automotive.

  • You’ll be part of an AI-native company. We’re rethinking how work gets done at a fundamental level.

  • You’ll work directly with operators who have scaled multi-billion-dollar businesses in automotive, EV, and marketplaces.

  • You’ll have real ownership, high autonomy, and a direct line to company outcomes.

The Opportunity
We’re looking for a Business Operations Manager to be a force multiplier for our BizOps Director: someone who can take an ambiguous, cross-functional problem, build the trust to step into another team’s operations, and drive a data-driven fix.

You’ll own cross-functional projects end to end, scoping them, driving implementation, and measuring success. You’ll partner directly with functional leaders (Sales, Dealer Success, Ops) to diagnose operational challenges and help fix them.

What You’ll Own

Cross-Functional Project Ownership

  • Lead cross-functional initiatives from scoping through execution.

  • Drive accountability across teams you don’t formally manage. Keep initiatives moving, surface risks early, and make sure deliverables ship.

  • Take on problems that arrive as symptoms (“this handoff keeps breaking,” “onboarding is too slow”) and figure out what’s actually going on to propose a fix.

Operational Partnership

  • Partner directly with functional leaders to diagnose inefficiencies in how their teams operate.

  • Analyze data to size a problem and diagnose the root cause.

  • Design and implement fixes such as new agentic workflows, automations, and SOPs.

  • Lead and facilitate department operations, such as weekly business reviews.

  • Act on diagnosed daily metric alerts.

Who You Are

  • 4-7 years of experience in business operations, strategy and operations, consulting, or a high-growth startup operations role. Marketplace or automotive experience is a plus.

  • A track record of owning ambiguous problems end to end.

  • Strong stakeholder management: you can walk into a team you don’t manage, build credibility fast, and drive change without formal authority.

  • Comfortable with data (SQL a plus) and analytics.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication. A structured thinker who can bring clarity to a messy situation.

  • Bias toward action, low ego, and thrives in zero-to-one ambiguity.

Compensation and Benefits
Annual salary: $145,000 to $165,000

Salary ranges reflect independent, third-party benchmarking against national compensation data. Where an individual’s actual offer falls within that range depends on a combination of factors, including relevant experience, specialized skills, training and qualifications, current business needs, and prevailing market conditions. Ranges are reviewed periodically and may be adjusted to reflect changing market conditions.

Benefits & Perks:

  • Health, Vision, and Dental insurance

  • 401(k) plan

  • Daily lunch stipend

  • Equity (based on role and performance)

  • Unlimited PTO

  • Fully stocked kitchen

  • Dog-friendly office

  • 30-day remote work from anywhere policy

  • Ongoing opportunities for growth and development

This full-time position is based in Sawtelle (between Santa Monica and West Los Angeles) and is an in-person role. Relocation assistance will not be provided for successful candidates. Sponsorship not available at this time.
